The Vegetarian Choice - by John Fennel

“Thud of metal on fishbone, skull, neckless head-body, the fish is whole, I couldn't anymore, I had no right to. We didn't need it, our proper food was tin cans. We were committing this act, a violation, for sport or amusement or pleasure, recreation they call it, these were no longer the right reasons. That's an explanation but no excuse my father used to say, a favorite maxim.” —excerpt from "Surfacing", by Margaret Atwood

Pursuing Wellness: a Conversation with Kelly Evans Bradley, MSPT, HHC - by Catherine Sheehy

Veggilicious spoke with local resident Kelly Evans Bradley - physical therapist, certified practitioner in several physical fitness modalities, holistic health, nutrition, and wellness counselor, and public speaker - about the connection between body, mind, diet and health in March 2006. A firm believer that holistic health is personal, and that works for a person today may not work for them two months from now, Kelly is a disciplined flexitarian in her approach to wellness.

Mushy Tofu Syndrome - by Danielle Kischler

I recently visited Florida for a cousin's bat mitzvah celebration. It was my first trip home since I became vegan, and I was quite nervous about getting fed. Luckily, there were vegan--or at least vegetarian--options at every meal. I also brought my Luna and Odwalla bars, and I always carry dried apricots in my purse for when hunger strikes.

My Journey Toward Vegetarianism - by Catherine Sheehy

When I was eight years old, I stumbled across my dad butchering a deer. He, or one of his friends, shot the deer while hunting. I use the word "butcher" literally, because my dad was a butcher - the old fashioned kind who worked in the cold room behind the meat counter, preparing special cuts for customers, typically women shopping for the week's dinner.

Personal Arrival at Vegetarianism - by Maureen Harrington

Mango pulp. But more on that later. First, I suppose I should introduce myself. What are my vegetarian credentials? I became a vegetarian when I was 15, which was (wow!) nearly 20 years ago. By vegetarian, I mean real vegetarian - no fish, and certainly no chicken. I do not mean vegan. Been there, tried that, however briefly. I have managed to delete eggs from my diet, though, except where they are a small integrated part of a food (e.g., some breads and ice creams).

Traveling Veggie Style- by Alison Ormsby

Planning a trip? Wondering how difficult it is going to be to travel as a vegan or vegetarian? As a vegetarian who travels extensively, I'm here to give my take on how to ease the challenges of life on the road as a veggie. I've been a vegetarian for 15 years and have traveled in 25 countries, mostly developing countries in the tropics, anywhere and everywhere from Sierra Leone to Belize to Papua New Guinea, to Kenya and India.

Vegans Online

I recently read a joke that veganism doesn't cause poor eyesight; you just get eyestrain trying to read labels. I went vegetarian earlier this year and now am on a fast track to veganism (grandmothering in my leather sandals because they're comfy as hell and don't have the stupid thing that sticks between my toes).

Vegging Out in New York - by Danielle Kischler

My boyfriend and I just took a trip to New York City. Before doing so, I hopped online to find vegetarian options in the city--and believe me, there are many. Because we were only there three days and two nights, we did not venture into Queens or Brooklyn, staying in Manhattan.
